☀️ Summer Grilling Essentials: Everything You Need for Your Best BBQ Season Yet 🌽
Your guide to effortless grilling made simple!
Summer grilling has always been one of my favorite ways to bring people together. There’s something so special about gathering around the grill, sharing simple food made with love, and creating memories that last long after the last bite. ❤️
Today is Father’s Day, and if you’re still looking for a last-minute gift, there’s still time to pick up something special for the dad, husband, grandfather, or father figure in your life. Whether he loves hosting backyard cookouts, perfecting his burger game, or simply spending time around the grill with family and friends, these summer favorites make thoughtful gifts he’ll enjoy all season long.
My approach to grilling is inspired by the recipes I grew up with… simple ingredients, beautiful flavors, and stress-free cooking. I don’t believe you need complicated marinades or fancy techniques to create incredible meals. A little olive oil, fresh herbs, quality ingredients, and a few smart grilling tricks can go a long way. 🌿
You don’t need a backyard full of gadgets to grill well. A few reliable tools, a hot grill, and fresh ingredients are really all it takes to create meals your family and friends will rave about. Below, I’m sharing my favorite grilling hacks, go-to recipes, and the essentials I reach for all summer long! 😎

🛒 My Summer Grilling Essentials
These are the tools I personally use and recommend throughout grilling season. They help make outdoor cooking easier, more enjoyable, and a lot less stressful.
🌡️ Digital Meat Thermometer
A digital thermometer is one of the best investments you can make for grilling. It takes the guesswork out of cooking and helps ensure perfectly cooked chicken, seafood, burgers, and steaks every time.
Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned griller, this is the tool that gives you confidence at the grill.
🥩 Grill Press
I love using a grill press for achieving beautiful caramelization and even cooking. It’s especially great for smash burgers, chicken, bacon, and steaks.
Those crispy edges and gorgeous golden-brown surfaces? A grill press helps get you there.
🍔 Steel Griddle
A steel griddle instantly expands what you can cook outdoors. From shrimp and vegetables to breakfast favorites and smash burgers, it gives you a versatile flat-top cooking surface right on your grill.
🧽 Grill Brush
Even though I love my onion-cleaning trick, a good grill brush is still essential for deeper cleaning and keeping your grill in top shape throughout the season. This is the one I reach for because it doesn't have those traditional wire bristles that can break off and end up on the grill (SO DANGEROUS ⚠️) which is exactly why so many people prefer this style. Regular maintenance helps your grill perform better and keeps every meal tasting its best!
✨ BBQ Scrub Daddy
If you’ve never used a BBQ Scrub Daddy, you’re missing out. It’s designed specifically for cleaning grills and outdoor cooking surfaces without the hassle of traditional scrubbing tools.
I love having one on hand for quick cleanup after a busy grilling session so everything is ready to go for the next meal.

🍗 My Favorite Grilling Hacks
Over the years, I’ve picked up a few simple grilling tricks that make a huge difference. They’re easy, effective, and use ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen.
🧅 Clean Your Grill with an Onion Hack
One of my favorite old-school grilling tricks is using an onion to clean the grates.
Once the grill is hot, carefully rub half an onion over the grates. The moisture helps loosen stuck-on bits while the natural oils can add subtle flavor to whatever you’re grilling next. It’s a simple trick that’s been passed down for generations and works surprisingly well.
While my onion trick is one of my favorite ways to freshen up the grates before grilling, I still rely on a quality grill brush and my BBQ Scrub Daddy to keep everything clean and ready for the next cookout.
🥔 The Potato Non-Stick Hack
After cleaning the grates, I like to rub half a raw potato directly onto the hot grill.
The potato releases starch that creates a natural non-stick coating on the grates. This helps prevent food from sticking and makes flipping everything from chicken to vegetables so much easier.
It’s one of those little tricks that feels like magic the first time you try it! 💫
🥢 The Bamboo Skewer Soak Hack
If you’re using bamboo skewers for grilling, there’s one simple step you should never skip: soaking them first.
Before you add any meat, seafood, or vegetables, place your skewers in a bowl of water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps the wood absorb moisture so it doesn’t burn once it hits the grill.
It’s a tiny step, but it makes a big difference!
